Gwadar’s merger with Pakistan celebrated

GWADAR: Pakistan Navy observed the 60th Gwadar Day on Saturday to commemorate the territory’s merger with Pakistan.

The territory was in the possession of Oman from 1783 to 1958, when it was formally handed over to Pakistan.

A naval platoon led by then Lieutenant Iftikhar Ahmed Sirohey was the first to hoist the Pakistan flag in Gwadar.

The PN arranged various events to celebrate the day and rejuvenate the spirit of nationalism among the locals.

Former chief of naval staff Admiral I.A. Sirohey was the chief guest at the main ceremony held at the PNS Akram, where a flag-hoisting ceremony was followed by a boat race and rallies, besides friendly football matches among the locals.

Senator Kohda Babar also attended the function. A large number of spectators were present at all the events.
