Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Tuesday ordered a crackdown against the use of vehicles by second or progressive owners on transfer letters.

The chief minister passed the orders after Additional IG Special Branch Dr Waliullah Dal told the chief minister, during a meeting held to review law and order in the province, that the terrorists who had attacked Chinese consulate in Karachi used a car whose owner had sold his vehicle six years ago and have died some five years ago.

"The vehicle was being used on a transfer letter," the chief minister was informed. At this, the chief minister directed the excise department to launch a crackdown against such vehicles.

Chief Minister Murad mentioned that the use of vehicles by second or progressive owners on transfer letters was illegal.

Moreover, IG Sindh Dr Kaleem Imam briefed the chief minister on crime statistics. He said that 61 terrorism-related cases were reported in 2013 which reduced to only two [incidents] in 2018. Similarly, he said, 575 extortion cases had been recorded in 2013 and now the figure has dropped down to 131 in 2018.

The chief minister claimed the credit for the reduced crime rate, saying he had provided maximum facilities to the police and have equipped them with latest weapon and training, therefore crime rate has come down.

“Now I want to change the Thana culture for which I have to take necessary measures to make the police public-friendly,” he added.
