Chitral villagers complain of faulty water scheme

CHITRAL: The elders of Lone village of upper Chitral have demanded of the chief minister and other high-ups to take notice of the faulty construction of a water supply scheme due to which more than half of the population was still deprived of drinking water despite completion of the costly project.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, the residents Mohammad Ali, Sher Azam, Zar Mohammad, Azizur Rahman and others said the water supply project had failed to fulfill needs of the people on which more than Rs60 million were spent.

They said the distribution lines had not been laid to the households from the main line despite the fact that the contractor has been paid for the purpose.

They complained that the contractor had placed the water pipes above the surface instead of laying them four feet deep in the earth as per specification of the contract. They said the pipes had started bursting during the winter when the temperature remained in the freezing point.

They demanded of the government to bring to book the engineers of the public health engineering department and ensure completion of the work as per contract specification.
