Four gangs active in Clifton, DHA robberies busted

KARACHI: Police on Friday claimed to have busted four criminal gangs involved in house robberies, thefts and street crimes in Clifton and DHA and recovered a huge amount of cash and other valuables from them, said DIG South Javed Odho.

Speaking at a press conference at his office, the senior officer said that police arrested Hafiz Aun Mohammed and Ghulam Husain in Punjab.

The held suspects along with their accomplice Qari Fayaz had committed robbery in the house of Syed Mohammed Ali Jafferi located in Defence Phase-V on Nov 11.

The police claimed to have recovered Rs2 million cash, 20,000 Canadian dollars, gold ornaments, one laptop and other valuables from their possession.

Separately, the Darakshan police detained three suspects, Nadir Husain, Zawar Husain and Siddiq, who were involved in a robbery at the home of Mohammed Ziad Akhtar Butt located on Khayaban-i-Mujahid in Defence on Nov 14. Law enforcers recovered five wristwatches and gold ornaments from them.

The Clifton police apprehended a suspect, Mohammed Zahid, who along with other accomplices was involved in a number of street crime incidents in Clifton and Defence while the Arambagh police detained Mohammed Faizan, who was stated to be a member of a gang involved in breaking the locks of shops.

Apart from cash, the DIG said police also recovered 17 looted laptops and other valuables from the said suspects.

Responding to a question, Mr Odho said that the police were still waiting for laboratory reports to ascertain exact cause of death of two minor brothers who apparently died of food poisoning in the city recently.

Replying to another question, the DIG South said that some progress had been made in the investigation into the deadly attack on the Chinese consulate last Friday.
