Five immigration officials at new airport suspended

RAWALPINDI: Following complaints at Pakistan Citizens’ Portal, the director general Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has transferred head of the immigration department at the Islamabad International Airport and suspended five officials for alleged mismanagement at the department.

The suspended officials have been told to report to FIA Balochistan Zone Quetta.

Director FIA Balochistan has been directed to conduct an inquiry into allegation regarding mismanagement in the department at the New Islamabad International Airport.

Of the 12 immigration counters, only five were operating when three international flights landed at the airport on Sunday night which created a mess at the airport.

Someone from the passengers made a video of the scene and sent it to the prime minister’s complaint cell, which forwarded it to director general FIA Bashir Ahmed Memon.

The DG immediately transferred deputy director (BS-18) FIA immigration Kamran Ali to FIA headquarters and suspended five officials.

Asmatullah Junejo, additional director (PSP/BS-19) FIA Cyber zone Rawalpindi had been given the additional charge of the immigration at Islamabad International Airport.

According to sources, twelve of the immigration officials, only five were on duty while five were absent and two were attending a departmental course. The absent officials were suspended

An FIA official said that 12 immigration counters had been set up at the airport to expedite immigration process and facilitate the international travelers.

A notification regarding transfer of deputy director Kamran Ali replacing with additional director Asmatullah Junejo has been issued by the FIA director general.
