Poisonous gas kills three miners in Balochistan

QUETTA: Three workers died after inhaling poisonous gas in a coal mine in the Chamalang area of Duki district on Sunday.

Official sources said that five miners went inside the mine. When they started digging for coal, poisonous gas began to accumulate inside, making all of them unconscious. They said three of the miners were working hundreds of feet deep inside the mine.

Soon after learning about the incident rescue workers launched an operation. They took all the unconscious workers out of the mine and rushed them to a nearby health facility.

The medical officer at the facility declared the three miners dead on arrival. The two others were provided medical treatment.

According to police, the three miners died after inhaling poisonous gas because they were working deep inside the mine. They said the other two miners survived because they were not at as deep inside as the three others.

The bodies of the three miners were shifted to hospital for medico-legal formalities and later handed over to the victims’ relatives.

The deceased were identified as Abdul Rehman and Akhtar Mohammad, from Zhob district, and Qutubuddin from Qilla Saifullah district of Balochistan.
