Tajikistan ready to provide electricity to Pakistan

RAWALPINDI: Tajik Ambassador Sherali S. Jononov on Tuesday urged the Pakistan’s business community to take benefit of the emerging opportunities in Tajikistan.

“Tajikistan will provide electricity to Pakistan under Central Asia South Asia (CASA 1000) energy project, which will be operational by 2020,” he stated this during his visit to Rawalpindi Chamber Of Commerce and Industry (RCCI).

Addressing traders, the Tajik envoy said that Pakistan and Tajikistan were enjoying cordial relations.

Tajik envoy said Rogun Dam had begun its operations and they were ready to provide cheap electricity to Pakistan in future.

He appreciated RCCI’s role in promoting trade activities through exhibitions and exchange of delegations and urged others chambers to follow in the footsteps of RCCI.

Pakistan is now emerging on the globe and under China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) its importance has increased. Central Asian countries including Tajikistan now have a shortest access to sea via Gawadar Port.

“We understand, banking and transportation issues,” he said and added that the tariff rates would be rationalised for better cooperation and bilateral trade activities.

RCCI President Malik Shahid Saleem, in his address of welcome, said Pakistan’s economy was taking a leap and expressed the hope that CASA1000 MW energy project will help Pakistan to meet its energy requirement.
