Forgery in dist council tax receipts

DERA GHAZI KHAN: A scam of forgery in the receipts of tax on transfer of immovable property imposed by the district council, has been detected in the land record centres in the district.

On public complaints about the fake deposit receipts of the tax, Deputy Commissioner Mazhar Iqbal Mahar has also sought a report from finance officer of the district council, Daud Taoqeer Alam.

Sources said that according to initial inquiry report, some fraudsters (officials) had got prepared fake receipts of tax on immovable property levied by the district council, besides counterfeit Punjab Bank stamps to embezzle the tax money.

They said the deposit receipts of tax on transfer of immovable properties No 6759, 6760, 6762 of Mauza Yaru and No 4618 of Mauza Semina Gharbi were found to be fake.

The malpractice was detected in the computerised land record offices of D G Khan and Kot Chhuta tehsils.

District Finance Officer Mr Alim told Dawn that the scam was unearthed during inspection of the record of all the three tehsils of the district. So far embezzlement of Rs80,000 had been detected and the amount go up to millions, he added.

District council Chief Officer Farmaish Ali said he had officially written to the land record authorities for taking legal action against those involved in the scam.
