Traffic control plan

KARACHI: The Sindh chief secretary has asked divisional and district administration of Karachi that in consultation with the traffic police, the KMC, the KDA, the DHA, cantonment boards and other relevant civic agencies, a comprehensive traffic control plan be made within a week for betterment of the traffic system in Karachi.

It was decided that in the next meeting, which would be convened next week, a proper line of action would be finalised.

Presiding over a meeting on traffic issues, Chief Secretary Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah directed all the authorities concerned present in the meeting to ensure removal of encroachments from roads and eradicate illegal parking to enable smooth traffic flow without any inconvenience to road users.

He stressed the need to reopen/restore the closed parking plazas.

He advised the secretary of transport to coordinate with the traffic police and divisional district administration.

After the deliberations, the chief secretary issued directives to all deputy commissioners of all six districts of Karachi to examine and analyse encroachment status, identify parking spaces/parking plazas, illegal parking on one-way roads, U-turn position on roads and status of traffic signals and signboards on roads in their jurisdiction in collaboration with traffic police, the Sindh transport department and civic agencies concerned within a week.
