FROM THE PAST PAGES OF DAWN: 1943: Seventy-five years ago: Aligarh Fund

ALIGARH: In honour of the visit of H.E. the Governor of the United Provinces Khan Bahadur Ghazanfurullah, M.L.A. Allahabad, has donated a sum of Rs. 1,000 to be used as an endowment fund for providing two medals to be awarded annually to the two best students of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in the Muslim University.

A deputation of the University officials and members of the Visiting Board led by Sir Ziauddin Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor waited on H.E. the Governor and discussed with him some important points concerning the financial position and the future schemes of expansion of the University. H.E. it is understood gave a very sympathetic hearing and promised to consider the pressing needs of the University.

The following donations to the Vice-Chancellor’s funds for poor students have been received: Seth Yousuf Abdulla Haroon Rs. 500/ -; Seth Mohd Abdulla Rs. 500/ -; Miss Salima Begum (Calcutta) Rs. 500/ -;K. B. Haji Rashid Ahmad of Delhi Rs. 500/ -;Mr. M.A. Barkat Rs. 500/ -; Mr Mohammad Nasim (Cawnpore) Rs. 500/ -;Mr. Abul Aziz Fauzan (Bombay) Rs. 1,000/ -.
