Thousands of veterinary doctors jobless

PESHAWAR: The unemployed veterinary doctors on Wednesday expressed concern over the government’s apathy to develop the livestock sector and suggested establishment of new animals’ hospitals, laboratories and upgradation of existing facilities in the province to accommodate the jobless graduates.

In a statement issued here, Dr Khalid Farooq, a representative of the unemployed veterinary doctors’ forum, said at least 26,000 students had completed their studies from different universities but they were still in search of jobs.

He said the provincial government was least bothered to accommodate the jobless veterinary doctors otherwise it would have upgraded the animals’ hospitals and set up new facilities in the province.

He said Pakistan was known as agricultural country but practically the successive governments had never taken steps to improve the agriculture and livestock sectors.

He said livestock sector had important role in GDP growth, adding despite a separate directorate of livestock, the sector had always been ignored in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
