Over 90 power thieves arrested

PESHAWAR: Many villages face power disconnection in Peshawar as 92 persons were arrested during the ongoing campaign against power thieves carried out by joint teams of Peshawar Electric Supply Company and the district administration on Wednesday.

The raiding parties removed 22 power transformers facilitating various localities mostly in rural areas of the Peshawar district to force the people to clear their dues and stop power theft.

According to a statement issued here, the crackdown was supervised by deputy commissioner Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh and Pesco superintending engineer Tahir Jamal. The action was carried out in different villages on Warsak Road, including Darmangi, Palosai, Regi, Mashogagar, Musazai, Bara Road, Chamkani, Deri Baghbanan and Dalazak Road.

It was stated that 92 people had been arrested for taking direct illegal connections from the main transmission lines. The raiding parties disconnected power supply to the consumers and warned that the power transformers would not be re-installed unless they paid the outstanding bills.

Pesco has asked the citizens to download the app ‘Pakistan Citizen Portal’ and provide information about the power theft so that necessary action could be taken against the wrongdoers.
