Death of colleague: Teachers to boycott classes today

FAISALABAD: Teachers of the public schools in the district will boycott classes on Wednesday (today) and hold a rally in protest against the “frequent inquiries” conducted against one of their colleagues who died of cardiac arrest on Tuesday, allegedly because of the pressure exerted on him.

The teachers immediately boycotted the classes on being informed of the death of Sharif Usmani, who taught at the Government MC Higher Secondary School, Kotwali Road, and also announced a protest rally on Wednesday (today).

In a press release, Hafiz Abdul Nasir, an office-bearer of the Principals Association, said the deceased teacher was very tense because of the multiple probes initiated against him on the complaints made by father of a student.

He said though Mr Usmani had been cleared of all the previous charges against him, the complainant continued filing applications against the teacher.

He alleged that Mr Usmani could not take the undue pressure and suffered cardiac arrest that proved fatal.

In a joint meeting held after their colleagues death, the teachers’ associations decided to boycott the classes after 10am and stage a protest rally from the Kotwali Road school the District Council Chowk.
