Swabi women varsity to have two new departments

SWABI: The Women University Swabi (WUS) has decided to open two new departments to provide an opportunity to girl students to get quality education and play their role in the empowerment of women in the society.

According to sources, the decision was made in the ninth meeting of the academic council of the university, held two days ago. The meeting was attended by chairpersons and heads of all the departments, director admission, controller of examinations and register of the university.

The meeting decided to set up two new departments -- department of food sciences and nutrition and department of sports and physical education.

The participants of the meeting said that establishment of the two departments would help to create nutritional awareness besides preventing and curing diseases as well as opening a window of new profession to graduates of the university.

Sources said that establishment of department of sports and physical education would provide to the students the knowledge required for understanding and recognising the interface between sports and education besides preparing them as sport educators. The meeting also recommended to launch MPhil and PhD programmes in the discipline of political science as the department fulfilled the requirements for launching the said programmes.

Another important decision made in the meeting was launching of non-credit courses that would boost personal development and intellectual growth of the graduates.

Vice-chancellor Prof Khanzadi Fatima Khattak said that the university would take all possible measures to ensure inculcation of values like social responsibility, ethics and integrity among its graduates beside quality education and research.

POLICE: The passing out parade of a new batch of policemen, who completed training in Police Training School Swabi, was held at Shahmansoor on Monday.

AIGP Shahzad Saleem, who was chief guest on the occasion, said that he hoped that the policemen would perform their duty honestly to serve people.

He said that the training was imparted to the new batch keeping in view the new challenges.
