Leipzig, Frankfurt win to push Bayern down to fifth

BERLIN: Defending champions Bayern Munich dropped down to fifth in the Bundesliga on Sunday as both RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt leapfrogged them with wins.

After Bayern lost 3-2 on Saturday at league leaders Borussia Dortmund, who are now seven points ahead of Munich, Leipzig’s 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen and Eintracht Frankfurt’s 3-0 win against Schalke 04 pushed the Bavarians further down the table.

Leipzig are now on 22 points after 11 games with second-placed Borussia Moenchengladbach on 23 and Dortmund on 27 while Eintracht climbed to fourth on 20 points, ahead of Bayern on goal difference.

Yussuf Poulsen scored once in either half and Lukas Klostermann scored his first goal of the season as Leipzig beat toothless Leverkusen to stretch their unbeaten run in the league to 10 games.

Eintracht scored three goals in the last half hour over visiting Schalke; Luka Jovic scoring the first two goals with the 20-year-old Serbian striker setting up Sebastien Haller for the third.
