Riots: Sindh police

ALTHOUGH it is already too little and too late, the Sindh police’s declaration of its intentions to nab the miscreants of the three-day rioting are welcome.

However, instead of asking citizens to come forward and give names of hooligans, the Sindh police should ask themselves a few basic questions.

Where were the Sindh police during the three days of rioting? What were they doing and why did they not proactively take position at various riot-prone spots to prevent gathering of people.

Surely it is easier to stop 10 people while they are gathering than 100 once they have already gathered. Why were the 4,000 plus Sindh policemen on VIP duty of ‘important people’ not withdrawn to support the regular police during this period? So, can one say that the problem may have been caused by the inaction and unprofessional attitude of the reactive Sindh police?

Why have the Sindh police not registered FIRs against the leaders of the religious militant groups for incitement to treason, mutiny and murder? Do the Sindh police not consider these a crime? Will they do so immediately or will they be awaiting a political nod?
