Chief commissioner, SSP operations appointed

ISLAMABAD: The Establishment Division on Tuesday issued notifications for the appointment of Amir Ali Ahmed as the capital’s chief commissioner and Waqarud Din Syed as the senior superintendent of police (SSP) operation.

One of the notifications says that Amir Ali Ahmed, a BS-20 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service, posted under the Punjab government, has been transferred and posted as the Islamabad chief commissioner under the Interior Division, with immediate effect and until further orders.

Mr Ahmed replaced Joudat Ayaz, who was transferred to Punjab, a police official told Dawn, and that Mr Ayaz was appointed as chief commissioner in June, ahead of the general elections, by the caretaker government.

Mr Ahmed also served as a principal secretary to the prime minister during the first PML-N government and as additional deputy commissioner (general), deputy commissioner, member Capital Development Authority, director General Sports Board and director general passports. He was transferred to Punjab during the caretaker government, police officials said.

Another notification says that Waqarud Din Syed, a BS-19 officer of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP), presently awaiting a position in the Establishment Division, is transferred and posted as SSP (operation) in Islamabad, under the Interior Division, with immediate effect and until further orders.

Mr Syed is a PSP officer from the 27 common training program of the National Police Academy, police official said, and that he was promoted to SSP in 2011. He has mostly served in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

SSP Counter Terrorism Force Mohammad Amin Bukhari was earlier given additional charge as SSP operation, Islamabad, on Sept 25 after the then SSP operation Najeebur Rehman Bugvi relinquished charge as he was transferred to Punjab.

Under SSP Bukhari, the capital police launched an aggressive campaign against narcotics peddlers selling drugs to students. During his tenure as SSP operation, the Secretariat police under the leadership of Station House Officer Shabir Tanoli busted a Nigerian drug smuggling and peddling gang.
