Robber held, four accomplices flee during ‘shootout’

SAHIWAL: Motorway police managed to arrest a suspected robber while his four accomplices fled during a 20-minute ‘shootout’ here on Monday.

Reports said five suspects attacked a motorway police recovery office near Yousafwala, looted Rs80,000 from manager Imdad Hussain and injured inspector Shah Nawaz on resistance. The suspects riding two motorbikes fled the scene. A motorway patrol van chased the suspects. On seeing the police team, the suspects opened fire. During a 20-minute ‘shootout’, police arrested one of the suspects Liaquat Ali while four others managed their escape.

Choki Gamber In-charge Rao Naseem told this correspondent that police registered a case against Liaquat under sections 427, 412, 395, 297, 324, 253 and 186 of PPC. He said police recovered the [looted] cash, a pistol and three dozen bullets. Raids are under way to arrest others.
