From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1943: Seventy-five years ago: Kashmir govt & Muslims

CHOUDHRI Ghulam Abbas, President, All-Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference, Jammu, has issued the following statement:-

During the last six years, whenever opportunities have arisen for the Kashmir Government to decide things between the Muslim Conference and the National Conference, it has infallibly leaned on the side of the latter and yet it would always in reply tell the same old story of impartiality and fair play. Only the other day on the occasion of Id, while the President of the National Conference was allowed to deliver a speech despite Government orders prohibiting public speeches, the Mir Waiz of Kashmir was bluntly refused such permission by the District Magistrate of Srinagar. Now will the Government, in the face of this outrage and glaring instance of one-sided and partial attitude, just like the denial of maltreatment to Nawab Yar Jang Bahadur, come forward with a denial of any speech having at all been delivered or that the Mir Waiz was never refused permission to deliver a speech on the Id day? So long as pro-Congress tendencies exist in the State it is futile to hope for the best but maybe hope that this time at least the Government will not try to hoodwink the local and outside Press and public opinion by its usual Press Notes.
