Broken nullah

I WOULD like to draw the attention of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation to the severe problem which has been causing health hazards for area residents and jeopardising safety of the road traffic.

Some eight years ago the roof of a covered nullah was broken down by authorities to drain out the heavily collected rainwater in the area.

The drain is situated on main Sir Shah Muhammad Suleman Road in front of Hasan Apartments, Gulshan-i-Iqbal.

The departments concerned never bothered, since then, to repair it despite several complaints.

This broken nullah is stinking and due to its bad smell the atmosphere of the entire area — the National Stadium, the Expo Centre and the Civic Centre — has been badly affected.

People living in flats nearby have been suffering from severe health problems because of unhygienic conditions and breeding mosquitoes.

People have now started throwing broken building material, garbage and polythene waste into it to further pollute the atmosphere.

On, many an occasion a motorcycle rider or a pedestrian has fallen into this nullah at night as there are no streetlights there.

The departments concerned must act immediately.
