The Rebel Optimist bags another international award

KARACHI: Perween Rahman: The Rebel Optimist has won another international award, this time at the 7th Delhi International Film Festival 2018.

Directed by Mahera Omar, Perween Rahman: The Rebel Optimist, won the award for best documentary in the category of cinema across the border.

Of the 600 films received from more than 75 countries, 194 films from 56 countries were shortlisted for final competition in Delhi international film festival. The week-long festival, which kicked off on Oct 14, showcased the 194 films, including five entries from Pakistan.

They were two documentaries, Perween Rahman: The Rebel Optimist and Breaking Barriers, a short film Rang Raaz: the Secret of Colour, a film by students Zawaal and a feature film Parchi from Pakistan.

The Rebel Optimist captures the life and work of the architect, urban planner and a committed social activist, Perween Rahman, who worked fearlessly for the less privileged in Karachi till her murder in a targeted attack on March 13, 2013.

The 67-minute documentary had also bagged the Special Jury Mention Award in the non-fiction category during the 6th Nepal Human Rights International Film Festival held in March this year.
