LAHORE: The National Highways and Motorway Police on Sunday issued preventive measures for motorists to avoid fog-related accidents.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ahmad Arsalan Malik was chairing a meeting to review measures on how to avoid incidents/accidents during fog by adopting road safety measures.

The motorway police issued directions, including suggesting travel between 10am and 6pm during fog, which is a morning or evening phenomena; maintaining a certain distance between vehicles; and not rushing or speeding to get out of the fog.

The moisture in the air could collect on the windshield, making it difficult to see, so the motorists have been suggested to adjust the defroster and windshield wiper speed as necessary, use fog lights or driving lights.

The DIG said during foggy season people should drive slowly, maintain a safe distance, avoid applying sudden brakes, and ensure that fog lights and windshield wipers are functional. Motorists should also contact motorway police helpline 130 for guidance about road and weather conditions before starting their journey.

He further directed the sector commanders to manage fresh lane marking and other arrangements on highways with the coordination of the National Highways Authority to avoid any untoward accident in extreme foggy conditions.
