Probe ordered into Shangla projects

SHANGLA: Deputy commissioner Tashfeen Haider has ordered a probe into the ongoing development projects in the district over alleged use of substandard material.

Mr Haider inspected various projects and found that contractors had been using substandard material and delaying the projects. He told this scribe on Sunday that he inspected the playground and girls degree college projects, which had been delayed by the contractors deliberately causing difficulties for the students.

The DC said that he had initiated an inquiry into the delay and use of substandard material in the projects. He regretted that there was no playground in the district headquarters, Alpuri, for the students and local youth.

He said that annual sports competitions of schools were underway in the district, but unfortunately there was no proper playground for them. He said that while inspecting the girls degree college Alpuri, he found buffaloes inside the building. The locals told him that the college project had been delayed for over a decade and some people were using the building for their personal purposes.

He said that the contractors would go behind bars if they were found guilty of delay and using substandard material in the projects.
