Akram, Muneeb seize first-round leads

ISLAMABAD: Mohammad Akram from Gymkhana Club took the first-day lead in the senior professionals category when he fired a 64 while Muneeb Ahmed from the PAF Golf Club shot a 72 to lead the junior professionals category as the 10th Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Open Golf Championship teed off here at Margalla Greens Golf Club Islamabad on Thursday.

After Rear Admiral Shoaib Khattak, Director General Joint Warfare & Training, Joint Staff Headquarters, inaugurated the championship, senior professionals, senior amateurs, junior amateurs, junior professionals and ladies played over 18 holes on a pleasant day.

Nadeem Asif from Margalla Greens Golf Club was first in the senior amateurs’ with a net score of 68 while Master Irtiza from the same club took the junior amateurs’ category with 61.

Eminent professionals and prominent amateur golfers from all over the country are playing for Rs4 million prize money besides a brand new SUV for the golfer who scores a hole-in-one. The professionals’ and amateurs’ contests begin from Friday.
