Police uniform likely to be changed

LAHORE: Inspector General Police (IGP) Amjad Javed Saleemi said at the darbar of 721 station house officers (SHOs) at the Central Police Office on Wednesday a majority of the personnel of the force were not comfortable with the colour and the fabric of the uniform.

He said that the decision to change the uniform was endorsed by the force in a “referendum” held during the meeting of SHOs.

The IGP advised senior officers to ensure good professional relationship with their subordinates so that the positive change was also reflected in behavior of their subordinates in their interaction with the public.

He ordered officers to ensure the weekly day off of their subordinates. The additional IG (establishment) with other senior officers will visit Multan fortnightly in order to address issues of officers/officials of south Punjab.

Mr Saleemi said that a one-day refresher training course would be arranged for inspectors deployed in police stations, while foreign training courses would also be ensured on quota basis in order to enhance the efficiency of police tiers.

He asked inspectors to give three suggestions regarding their preferred place of postings.

He said that being the police chief, it was his top priority to focus on the best welfare of the force for which all available resources would be utilised.

He added that schools for the children of police officials and martyrs would be established in all regions of province while health cards insurance would be provided to address their health issues. A welfare branch will be further activated in district headquarters of the province for the quick relief and welfare of officials. Also, departmental action will be taken against those officials who torture the citizens and behave rudely with them.

The IGP said construction of residential colonies for the police force in the vicinity of police lines and other places in all districts of the province would be done and water filter plants and washrooms in all police lines would be provided.
