Stained glass artworks on display

LAHORE: An exhibition of stained glass artworks by a Gojra-based artist, Zaibun Nisa, opened at the Alhamra Art Gallery, The Mall, here on Wednesday.

The show was jointly inaugurated by Prof Sajida Vandal, Vice Chancellor of the Institute of Art and Culture and Dr Nizamuddin, Chairperson of the Higher Education Commission, Punjab.

It was organised by MAHEC Foundation in collaboration with the Lahore Arts Council, University of Gujrat and Sustainable Development Policy Institute.

It was the first solo exhibition by the self taught artist. Ms Nisa said she treated artworks in a novel way, using stones and stain glass.

The artist said she had done a diploma in commercial art from Pak German Institute, Lahore. She said this exhibition however had nothing to do with the commercial art, as it was her personal expression.

Ms Vandal said the artist had done experimental work which also carried her individuality.

Stained glass artwork exhibitions were not common, said LAC Art and Culture Director Zulfiqar Zulfi.

He said it was traditional art which was vanishing because of technological advancement.

The exhibition showcased 59 unique and creative paintings. To many visual art financiers who attended the show, such events would be helpful in the revival of stained glass artwork.

The artist depicted scenes from folklore and the culture of Punjab through her work.

The works were on sale with prices ranging between Rs10,000 and Rs 60,000.

The exhibition will remain open till Oct 19.
