Contraband burnt in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: The Anti-Narcotics Force of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday torched 11.5 tons of narcotics and 103 tons of prohibited chemicals at Reggi Lalma Firing Range.

Judge anti-narcotics court Nusrat Yasmin was the chief guest at a ceremony on the occasion. She said the use of narcotics was spoiling the society and underscored the need for collective efforts to get rid of the menace.

The ANF, she said was fighting against the menace in an effective manner despite limited resources.

Speaking at the function, Force Commander ANF Brig Mateen Ahmed Faraz said accused in 333 narcotics cases out of 340 had been sentenced to various terms by the anti-narcotics court.

The ANF was also investigating the assets accumulated by the people through smuggling, he said, adding the ANF forfeited a total of Rs221.5 million worth assets of the accused during the current year.

He said the ANF was utilising all the resources at its disposal for curbing the spread of narcotics in society.

The ANF in collaboration with the provincial government has set up a 100-bed hospital for rehabilitation of drug addicts in Peshawar, Brig Faraz said.
