Inayatullah claims wrestling bronze at Youth Olympics

BUENOS AIRES: Mohammad Inayatullah overpowered Carson Manville of the US convincingly in the third place play-off to claim bronze medal for Pakistan -- the first in the history of Pakistan wrestling -- at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires.

Inayatullah, the 2017 Asian Cadet silver medallist, defeated the American wrestler 6-2 in the under 65kg category.

The 17-year-old Inayatullah scored first to go up 2-0 but Manville answered to tie up the bout at the break, 2-2. In the second period, Inayat scored four unanswered points to secure the decision and win the bronze.

Earlier, Inayatullah outclassed New Zealand’s Westerley Pehi Tahi Ainsley in the first round, while he lost to Azerbaijan’s Turan Bayramov in his second fight, but then managed to win the bronze.

Meanwhile, Turan Bayramov of Azerbaijan clinched the under 65kg gold medal beating Mohammad Baghi Karimiseifabad of Iran in the final.

Pakistan Wrestling Federation (PWF) chairman Syed Aqil Shah and president Mohammad Abdul Mobeen Chaudhry have congratulated Inayatullah for achieving the feat.

Inayatullah had shown his talent last year when he claimed 70kg title at the Beach World Wrestling Championships by defeating an Irani opponent in the final in Dalyan, Turkey.
