Tennis player deprived of mobile phone

PESHAWAR: Police have failed to trace the accused persons involved in snatching of a mobile phone from an international table tennis player, Fahad Khwaja.

The player, who is also student of civil engineering department in the University of Engineering and Technology Peshawar, in his statement issued to media on Sunday, said that he was on his way to Qayyum Sports Complex from home on his motorbike on Saturday.

He said as he stopped at the Swati Phattak Bazaar to send a text message to a friend two armed men with their faces covered came there on a motorcycle and demanded his mobile phone. “Before I could react they snatched my mobile phone at gunpoint and rode the motorcycle towards Manakrao area.”

He told police that many other people were also witnessing the situation but they did not react, saying no official of relevant Peshtakhara police station was there to chase the criminals.

The player said he had recently purchased the mobile phone (Galaxy C7).

When contacted, police said a temporary report had been registered but no one had so far been arrested in the case.
