‘Deadly crossing’

APROPOS A. K. Shiraz’s letter ‘Deadly crossing.

There are a number of schools on GT Road in the area located between Giga Mall and the DHA Chowk. GT Road becomes tightly jammed during the time when the children are being picked up and dropped at the school. -- Some drivers, while picking up and dropping schoolchildren, park their cars in the middle of the road. There is no overhead bridge for the pedestrians to cross GT Road during rush hours.

U-turns, that are necessary for easy mobility of traffic during normal flow of vehicles, serve as a key factor in causing jam as drivers have to cross the road immediately after going through the U-turn to drop schoolchildren.

No one is being fined for breaking traffic rules. As a result, people have started driving on the wrong side of the roads, adopting shortcuts and leading to the worsening of the situation.

The solution to all this is within our reach. Authorities need to make a plan and then enforce it to reduce this chaotic situation and the citizens need to follow rules and regulations.
