Laptops, cash prizes for exam position holders in Shangla

SHANGLA: The Shangla district government distributed laptops and cash prizes among the position holder students under the Rokhana Shangla Programme at a ceremony here on Tuesday.

The ceremony was attended by district education officers Mohammad Ameen and Parveen Rehman, administration officials, councillors, teachers, students and their parents.

District nazim Niaz Ahmed Khan said on the occasion that Shangla government was striving to launch programmes for improving literacy rate in the area. He said that promotion of education was his first priority because without education the district could make progress.

He said that district government would initiate more programmes to promote education and improve condition of government schools so that more people could enroll their children. He said that Rokhana Shangla Programme would encourage the hardworking students.

The nazim announced Rs5 million to provide drinking water to the government schools and five vehicles to the district education offices, both male and female. He also announced Rs30 million for purchase of furniture for schools. He said that district government would afford the education expenses of top 20 secondary school students for two years.

The nazim said that two top position holder students, a boy and girl each, would be sent abroad for higher education under Rokhana Shangla Programme. He gave away 86 laptops to SSC students, who got good marks in the last examinations. He also awarded Rs100,000 cash prize to each position holder student and Rs200,000 for scholarships.

Awards and certificates were also distributed among the students. The teachers of government schools were also awarded for their good performance.

Meanwhile, the education department appointed 41 more secondary school teachers (SST) at various schools in the district.

A notification issued here on Tuesday said that 41 SST teachers were appointed through National Testing Service.
