Nawaz Sharif’s release

APROPOS the editorial ‘Nawaz Sharif’s’ release (Sept 20). The decision of the courts in any society must be respected. On the other hand, the judges must also show maturity and responsibility in giving judgments.

For more than 30 months now, the nation has been following the Panama Papers Case proceedings which pertain to Nawaz Sharif and his family.

Everyone talks of rampant corruption in the country, and they expect the courts to treat all equally with no preferential treatment for the high and mighty.

Unfortunately, this has not happened and we see that the rich and the powerful take advantage of the weaknesses in our judicial system and avoid punishment with the result that corruption and injustice continues in society.

THE release of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter and son-in-law from Adiala jail following Islamabad High Court’s verdict has raised many questions regarding the the judicial criminal system of Pakistan.

Mr Sharif ascended to the country’s highest post thrice and was jailed allegedly on the basis of a weak case at a time when his wife was on her death-bed. What a tragedy! If the alleged corruption charges against Mr Sharif prove baseless, which is likely to happen, then what trust will the common man have in the system?
