‘Picture on the wall’

APROPS the article ‘Picture , picture on the wall’ (Sept 20) by Peerzada Salman, a writer we greatly respect. However in this instance his reporting left us surprised on two fronts.

Firstly, his remark ‘some NGO’ when the walls bear the I Am Karachi logo clearly and, secondly, the fact that he did not reach out to us for our version. To inform your readers, IAK has adopted over 3,000 walls all over Karachi. The ripple effect this has created has extended to over 30,000 walls all over Pakistan.

Furthermore, many of the walls, including the ones at the Karachi Press Club have been minimally retouched, and as the writer points out are probably the only walls not to get defaced and so are incredibly sustainable.

However, the press club is a difficult site as firstly they seem unable to restrain hundreds of protestors outside their walls from sticking posters. Secondly, the security apparatus in place is equally indifferent. No NGO or private organisation has the resources to continue maintaining 3,000 walls on their own.

This is a collective societal responsibility and we always welcome help from corporate and private partners to help maintain and increase this footprint.
