Mourners held processions across the country on Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram, to commemorate Muharram rituals which mark the seventh-century martyrdom of Prophet Mohammad's (PBUH) grandson Hazrat Imam Husain who was martyred in a battle in Karbala in Iraq 680 AD.

Amid tight security, Ashura processions were carried out in major cities, including Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Lahore and Karachi.

Participants of the processions stopped for Zuhrain prayers while making their way through designated routes.

Processions were also carried out on the 9th day of Muharram.
