Security arrangements for Muharram reviewed

QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan Alyani, while presiding over a meeting on the law and order on Wednesday, expressed concern over recent acts of terrorism in Qila Saifullah and directed that strict measures be taken immediately to check these incidents.

The meeting reviewed the overall security situation in the province ahead of Ashura. Home Minister Mir Saleem Ahmed Khosa, IG Frontier Corps, IG police and other officials concerned attended the meeting which also discussed the situation in Qila Saifullah where two Levies personnel were martyred and another was injured in a gun attack on Tuesday.

Security officials briefed the meeting about the measures being adopted to ensure foolproof security for Ashura processions across the province.

The meeting was informed that a heavy contingent of security forces comprising personnel from police, FC, Levies and Balochistan Constabulary would be deployed along the routes of Ashura processions and three battalions of Pakistan Army would be standby to handle any untoward situation.

The provincial government has already commenced installing CCTV cameras across the city to monitor the Ashura processions in Quetta while arrangements for air surveillance were also made.

The meeting also condemned the recent bomb attack on the vehicle of assistant commissioner of Barshor and targeted killings of Levies personnel in Qila Saifullah. Security officials told the meeting that an investigation was under way into the recent attacks in Pishin and Qila Saifullah.
