From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1968: Fifty Years Ago: 14 killed in bus mishap

RAWALPINDI: Fourteen persons including two drivers were today [Sept 16] killed and 22 others injured, two of them seriously, when a Rawalpindi-bound bus dashed against the right side railing of the Bhai Khan Bridge and plunged into the nullah underneath, about three miles from Gujar Khan, DSP Gujar Khan told [agency].

On receiving the information, a Police party reached the spot and made arrangements for the shifting of the injured persons to the hospitals. The injured were rushed to the district headquarters Rawalpindi and Civil Hospital Gujar Khan. Later, the SSP Rawalpindi Sardar Mohammad Vakil also reached the spot. Before the arrival of the Police, local people organised rescue work. Some of the private practitioners from Gujar Khan administered first aid to the injured.

The Police has registered a case and is making investigations.

[Meanwhile, as reported by an agency in Tel Aviv,] a Gaza Judge alleged to be connected with the underground El Fatah Organisation was shot dead last night [Sept 15] when “trying to escape arrest”, the Israeli army spokesman announced today.
