Over 5,800 take QUEST entry test

NAWABSHAH: A total of 5,870 candidates took the entry test for admission to the Quaid-i-Awam University of Eng­ineering, Science and Technology (QUEST), Nawabshah, on Sunday. The test was conducted simultaneously on the university’s Nawabshah and Larkana campuses.

QUEST Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Saleem Raza Samoo, accompanied by admission committee chairman Prof Dr Abdul Fateh Chandio, told local reporters that 5,871 candidates appeared in the test for 998 seats offered by the university in various disciplines including electrical, electronics, mechanical, civil, tele­communications, energy, environment, chemical, computer science, information technology and mathematics.

Prof Chandio said that 6,257 application forms were obtained and 6,211 of them were submitted by candidates. He said 39 applications were rejected on different grounds. He noted that 301 candidates whose applications were accepted did not appear in the test.

Since 2010, the university has been conducting the entry test own its own and improving arranges for candidates, as well as their parents or relatives accompanying them in their travel to the campuses from across the province, according to him.

He pointed out that as many as 126 blocks had been set up for the test at multipurpose hall and other places on the campus where 650 university employees performed their duties.

The test results were to be uploaded on the QUEST website the same evening while the merit list would be issued on Sept 30, he said.

Rangers and police personnel were deployed in and around the campuses to maintain law and order.
