DACCA: The Special Tribunal hearing the Agartala Conspiracy Case adjourned today [Sept 13] to meet again on October 14. The month long adjournment was announced by the Chairman of the Tribunal Mr Justice S.A. Rahman, at the end of today’s proceedings of the court. Thirty-five persons, including Awami League leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, three C.S.P. officers and several army officers stand trial in the case.

Earlier the cross-examination of prosecution witness-approver Captain Alim concluded today. Replying to questions by Defence Counsel Mirza Gholam Hafiz, the witness said that no list of arrested persons was shown to him on his arrival in Rawalpindi. He said he did not know whether accused Captain Huda was also interrogated in the adjacent room in the Interrogation Centre in ’Pindi when he was interrogated. He denied a suggestion that he had falsely implicated Captain Huda and Captain Nuruzzaman in the case.

On being cross-examined by Mr Fazlul Karim, Captain Alim said that there were no discussions in their meetings as to why martial law would be imposed for the first few years after independence (of East Pakistan) had been achieved. The question as to how the constitution would be given to the people was not discussed, he said.
