PR: some suggestions

THE Pakistan Railways has been facing losses of billion of rupees. These losses in the system are deep-rooted and rotten.

The former railway minister at his press conference had maintained that, in a short span of time, the railways would cover losses and would be made a revenue generating organisation. Instead, the organisation suffered more financial losses during his tenure.

I have a few suggestions for improving the conditions of the department:

The double track up to Peshawar should be completed to enhance capacity and curtail expenses. This will also help the shipment of export-oriented goods reach Karachi quickly.

Expensive railway lands should be sold at market value to overcome the burden of heavy losses.

There should be a proper monitoring system for the collection of ticket money at the selling booths on a daily basis, and a proper record should be maintained. This will enhance revenue and eliminate chances of embezzlement.

Food stuff at railway stations should be hygienic and affordable. The railway authorities should keep a check on food vendors on every station.

The replacement of old bogies with new ones is necessary, while sanitary conditions should be improved. Private parties should be engaged to enhance the quality of services.
