Kohat councillors demand transfer of DPO

KOHAT: The Kohat district council on Monday took serious notice of ‘rampant corruption’ in police stations and mistreatment of complainants by the policemen, and demanded immediate transfer of the district police officer for failing to keep tight rein on his subordinate officials.

Speaking at the session, district nazim Naseem Afridi said that they had been receiving regular complaints against the poor performance of the policemen and regarding their attitude with public which was unacceptable to them.

He criticised the police for what he said respecting the gangsters and being hand in glove with the criminals. He said that drug business was going on freely in the whole district under the nose of the police.

The district council session was chaired by convener Haji Abdur Rasheed. The councillors expressed their concern about functioning and performance of the police and other departments.

On the occasion, district councillor Dr Matiullah Shah said that they should devise a mechanism for cutting or increasing the development schemes keeping in view the priorities of the people of any area.

District nazim Naseem Afridi said that in future a department-wise discussion would be held in the council sessions to pinpoint their shortcomings and suggest solutions to the problems.

The councillors approved the decisions and schemes came up at the earlier sessions and demanded release of pending funds of Annual Development Programmes of 2017 and 2018 fiscals.
