DPOs asked to seek elders’ help for peace during Muharram

KOHAT: Deputy Inspector General of police, Kohat division, Mohammad Ijaz Khan on Monday asked the district police officers to adopt comprehensive strategy against criminals and elements wanting to disrupt peace during Muharram, which begins on Wednesday.

He directed the police officers to take on board elders and ulema belonging to different sects to promote atmosphere of religious tolerance and harmony.

Chairing a high-level meeting here, Ijaz Khan stressed that strike and strategic operations should be made more effective, especially during Muharram, to implement the National Action Plan.

He said cases in courts should be dealt according to modern technology to bring the culprits to book and provide relief to the victims.

The meeting was attended by district police officers of Kohat and Hangu, Sohail Khalid and Pir Shahab Ali Shah, SPs investigations, Kohat, Jehanzeb Khan and Abdur Rasheed of Hangu, and DSP legal Kohat, Ishaq Gul.

COMPLAINTS AGAINST NADRA: MPA Ziaullah Bangash, special adviser to the chief minister, on Monday visited the local Nadra office on public complaints.

He complained to director Nadra, Mujtaba Hussain, about the unfair attitude of the staff with the applicants seeking CNICs. He said the major problem was unusual delay in issuance of CNICs and problems faced by the people in filling forms.

He pointed out that the applicants had to visit the office several times as they were not guided about the procedure of getting the CNICs.

The director Nadra assured the CM’s adviser of resolve the problems relating to his office.

THREE OUTLAWS ARRESTED: The KDA police on Monday arrested three proclaimed offenders belonging to Nowshera district in a raid on a house.

DSP Sanobar Khan told journalists that they had received a tip-off that some proclaimed offenders had come to Kohat from Akora Khattak, Nowshera, and taken shelter in a bungalow in posh KDA Township.

A police team surrounded a house and asked to inmates to surrender. The outlaws initially showed some resistance, but later laid down their arms.

They were identified as Sharif Khan, Hameed, and Suleman.

DSP Sanobar said 30-bore pistols and cartridges were recovered from their possession.
