IDB to release $100m for polio eradication

ISLAMABAD: Islamic Development Bank (IDB) will release an additional $100 million aimed at supporting Pakistan’s efforts to eradicate polio through enhanced surveillance, timely procurement of polio vaccine and advocacy.

The delegation of the bank, led by Lead Global Management Dr El Bashier Sallam, had a meeting with the Minister National Health Services Aamer Mehmood Kiani.

The minister affirmed government’S commitment to eradicating polio and thanked the mission for the critical support the bank is providing to the health sector in Pakistan, especially towards polio eradication, mother and child healthcare and 15 mobile health clinics.

Minister acknowledged financial support for polio eradication programme amounting to $327 million from 2012–2018 for the first two phases.
