KARACHI: A young man was declared the newest victim of lethal Congo-Crimean haemorrhagic fever (CCHF) who died at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre on Monday.

Officials in the provincial health ministry said they had received confirmation of the death of a 25-year-old man from JPMC, bringing the death toll of the deadly disease to nine so far this year.

Dr Seemin Jamali, executive director, JPMC, said the victim, identified as Haider Ali, a resident of Mehmoodabad, was brought to the JPMC in a precarious condition two days ago and died on Monday.

She added that 13 patients suffering from the disease were brought to the hospital so far this year, which included four from Balochistan and one from Muzaffarabad.
