KARACHI: An accountability court on Saturday supplied copies of the documentary evidence to the detained suspects in a Rs760 million graft case.

The suspects — Ramzan Solangi, Javed Qamar, Qamaruddin Sheikh and Syed Gulab Khan — have been booked in a reference pertaining to alleged misuse of official authority and corruption.

The National Accountability Bureau staff arrested Ramzan Solangi, the personal secretary to the then provincial secretary of the local government department and Javed Qamar, an alleged frontman of a former district administrator, in April for allegedly collecting monthly bribes from district municipal councils, UCs and local government entities. Other suspects include senior director (lands record) Qamaruddin Sheikh and Syed Gulab Khan.

The anti-graft watchdog said that on a lead provided by Solangi Rs31.5m, including foreign currency, prize bonds worth Rs1,843,000, 100 tolas of gold and assets with certain documents were recovered from his residence in Garden.

It further claimed that the detained officials misused their official authority and caused losses to the national exchequer to the tune of Rs760m through corrupt practices, corruption, etc.

On Saturday, the accountability court concerned ordered to supply copies of the documentary evidence to the detained suspects and fixed the matter for Sept 19. The suspects are likely to be indicted on the next date.
