Mayor suspends KMC officer for failing to stop encroachment

KARACHI: Mayor Wasim Akhtar on Friday placed the parks and horticulture department’s deputy director of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) under suspension for failing to stop encroachment on the land of Hill Park.

Holding deputy director Mohammad Nadim responsible for the encroachment on the public park, he said that a restaurant had been illegally constructed in the park, which was demolished.

He warned that the officials involved in land-grabbing would be placed under suspension and directed officials to ensure that no KMC land was encroached upon.

The mayor also said the PECH Society was illegally issuing lease of the land belonging to Hill Park.

He also asked the housing society to refrain from allotting park’s land illegally, making it clear that the KMC would continue its anti-encroachment operation in the city.

Abbasi Shaheed Hospital

Meanwhile, the mayor said the KMC was making all-out efforts to provide medical equipment and medicines to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH), the third largest hospital in the city.

Presiding over a meeting in the ASH on Friday, he said the hospital, which needed 350 nurses, had only 137.

He directed the medical superintendent to provide better medical facilities to patients who were either poor or belonged to the middle class.

Among others, the meeting was also attended by Municipal Commissioner Dr Saif-ur-Rehman, senior director medical Dr Beerbal and senior director coordination Masood Alam.
