Hyderabad round of Dawn’s Spelling Bee held

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad round of the 14th Dawn in Education National Spelling Bee-2018 began at Sindh Museum on Thursday with around 400 to 500 students and their parents attending proceedings of the first day’s contests.

As usual students remained enthusiastic during the face-off. They came from 20 different public and private schools of Hyderabad division.

The participants also received applause from the audience during the contests, organised by the Dawn Media Group. They were divided into three age groups — 15-17, 12-14 and 9-11.

Three schools — City School, Nawabshah, Hack Public School, Hala and SST Public School, Rashidabad — were declared the winners.

The second round would be held on Friday when students from 30 schools of Hyderabad city would participate in the contest. The winner would qualify for the regional championship.

Ghulam Murtaza Siyal, controller of examinations of the University of Sindh, was the judge while Mr Momin was the pronouncer at the event.
