AKUH statement on Sharjeel Memon's blood test deepens controversy

KARACHI: The liquor controversy involving Sindh lawmaker Sharjeel Memon deepened further on Tuesday evening when the private hospital that had undertaken the blood test refused to confirm if the samples were drawn from him.

“A blood sample and a letter requesting blood test was sent by Dr Ziauddin Hospital to the AKUH Clifton Medical Services Centre on Saturday, 1 September 2018 at 12:03pm,” said the statement issued by the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH).

“It was received by the receptionist and sent onward to the laboratory as per routine. AKUH did not draw blood from the patient. It is, therefore, not responsibility of the AKUH to confirm whether the sample was drawn from Mr Memon or when it was drawn.”

Any hospital, it stated, could send a blood sample to the AKUH clinical laboratories for analysis, as the health facility tested samples and provided reports for a charge.
