ISLAMABAD: The sacked employees of Abdul Wali Khan University called off their strike on Tuesday after they were assured that their case would be heard at the earliest.

Score of the sacked employees of the university came to Islamabad on Monday to stage a protest demonstration to press the government for their restoration.

After camping outside the National Press Club, they were to bring out a rally from the club to Parliament House on Tuesday.

However, according to a sacked employee Anis Ali, the local administration persuaded them not to move towards Parliament House, as their case was already in the Peshawar High Court, and Supreme Court’s intervention should be sought for hearing of their case at the earliest.

“The local assistant commissioner arranged a meeting of our delegation with the Supreme Court officers, who had assured us for early hearing of our case by the Peshawar High Court,” he said and added that after this, they called off their strike.

Earlier, the sacked employees said that they were recruited in accordance with rules and procedure but the administration of the university sacked 247 employees without giving them any show-cause and final notice.

They said that university had sacked them illegally and they should be restored immediately.
