20,000 cops for Muharram security

LAHORE: Capital City Police Officer BA Nasir on Monday gave go-ahead to the security plan for Muharram, deputing over 20,000 policemen to perform duties in the provincial capital.

The security plan was finalised in a meeting headed by BA Nasir at the Police Lines, Qila Gujjar Singh, wherein the members of the district peace committee and senior police officers were present.

They included DIG Operations Shahzad Akbar, DIG Investigation Syed Khurram Ali, DIG Security Shaukat Abbas and Chief Traffic Officer Liaqat Ali Malik.

Speaking on the occasion, the CCPO said all the police officers were in close contact with the stakeholders to materialise the security arrangements for Majalis and processions. He said under the security plan, the processions had been divided into three categories A, B and C.

SP Security Muhammad Naveed would be the focal person regarding all security arrangements of Muharram, he said.

“Police are committed to making sure provision of the foolproof security on such mega religious events under the National Action Plan,” the CCPO said.

The operations DIG appealed to Ulema to spread the message of interfaith harmony during in Muharram.
