Robber killed in Paposh ‘encounter’

KARACHI: A suspected bandit was killed in an alleged police encounter in Nazimabad on Monday morning.

Police said five suspects barged into a house near Abbasi Shaheed Hospital at around 6am within the remit of the Paposh Nagar police station.

The suspects held the owner of the house at gunpoint as soon as he returned from a mosque, where he had gone to offer Fajr prayer.

The robbers were busy in taking jewellery, cash and other valuables when the owner’s wife, who lives on the second floor, called police helpline, Madadgar 15, said area SHO Khalid Mughal.

The police rushed to the scene and ordered the suspects to surrender. However, they resorted to firing in their bid to flee. During an exchange of gunfire, one of suspects was killed and his accomplice was arrested in a wounded condition, he said, adding that remaining three suspects managed to escape.
